Philips is named CES Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award Honoree with goLITE BLU device

Murrysville, PA, USA– Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) today announced that it has been named an International Consumer Electronics Shows Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the goLITE BLU light therapy device. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products.

The Philips goLITE BLU is a portable therapy light designed as a safe, simple and effective solution to help beat the winter blues without the use of drugs or artificial stimulants. In scientific research, light therapy has been shown to improve mood and energy by regulating our internal body clock or circadian rhythms—the body’s 24-hour cycle of activity and sleep. Philips’ proprietary Bluewave technology, which is incorporated into the goLITE BLU, targets the specific wavelength of light that the body clock responds to. It also dramatically reduces the overall intensity of light as compared to bright white therapy devices and can help to minimize potential side effects such as eyestrain, glare and headaches. Results can be felt within a few days with as little as 15 to 20 minutes of use per day.

Philips Home Healthcare Solutions’ goLITE BLU will be displayed at the 2009 International CES, which runs January 8-11, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees by product category at the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, Booth #72062. Best of Innovations honoree products will also be displayed at the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, next to Experience CEA and at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES on Tuesday, January 6.

Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.
